Why Uganda adopts crypto

Uganda is a remittance and mobile-money story. Most traders load shillings onto an exchange from MTN Mobile Money or Airtel Money rather than a bank. Because the shilling held its value in 2024, adoption here is about cheap cross-border payments and savings rather than hedging a collapsing currency. The Bank of Uganda has urged caution on digital assets rather than introducing a dedicated licensing regime.
